Belgium bans TikTok to its ministers and officials

A national security council on Friday morning imposed a TikTok ban on employees of ministries, as well as those in cabinets and public service departments.

The council meeting focused on examining a report from the Belgian Cybersecurity Center (CCB) as well as the conclusions of State Security on the use of TikTok in administrations. It shows that ministers, cabinets and civil servants.

A “logical and necessary” ban

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mobility, Georges Gilkinet, confirmed on Twitter the decision that he considers “logical and necessary”. In the European Union, the Commission, the Parliament and the Council of Europe have taken a similar decision. Employees of the three big EU institutions will have to remove TikTok from their professional phones, but also from their personal phones if they use them to carry out certain tasks related to their work, before March 20.

For several months now, the social network has been the subject of suspicions of espionage by Beijing. In the United States, a bill proposes to prohibit the use of TikTok throughout the territory. US officials are already being forced to remove the app from their phones.
