Moselle: an “electrosensitive” convicted of interfering with his city’s mobile network

The ANFR and the gendarmerie had to intervene in the town of Sarreguemines. The culprit, who was considered “electrosensitive”, had four wave blockers confiscated.

The approximately 20,000 inhabitants of the city of Sarreguemines (Moselle) may have had difficulties using their smartphone in recent months. As reported by the National Frequency Agency (ANFR), a resident of the city was found guilty of interfering with 2G, 3G, 4G and then 5G communications from the repeater antenna placed a few hundred meters from his house.

The ANFR explains that it was alerted by a complaint from a mobile phone operator, whose repeater antenna is located in Sarreguemines, after the latter noticed significant interference on its frequencies, affecting the quality of service in the environment. Thanks to a direction finder, a device capable of analyzing the circulation of electromagnetic waves, the ANFR was able to quickly locate the apartment at the source of the interference and notify the authorities.

The occupant of the premises turned out to be a man who presented himself as “electrosensitive” and who had covered his entire house with aluminum. To limit his exposure to the waves as much as possible, he illegally purchased a radio jammer. A device that has been especially effective, since it interrupted the mobile network of part of the city.

After several recidivisms, and the purchase of other blockers, the man was finally tried by the Justice Court of Sarreguemines. As a reminder, the possession of a jammer is prohibited by law, under penalty of six months in prison and a fine of 30,000 euros.

If he received no fine or prison sentence (the judge did not retain the intent to disturb public order), the wave phobic was found guilty and saw his four devices confiscated.

For the record, Defendant claims to have found that his “electrosensitivity” related symptoms decreased near his wave blocker. A paradoxical feeling, to say the least: as ANFR points out, wave jammers manage to disrupt the networks… by emitting even more powerful waves.
