Blizzard assures that Diablo IV will not be in Microsoft’s Game Pass

The developers of the new installment of the famous video game franchise have indicated that there are no plans to integrate Diablo IV into Microsoft’s catalog of subscription games.

Diablo IV developers may soon change boss. Blizzard, the studio behind the famous video game license, is totally concerned about Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision. And for good reason, Activision, Blizzard and King form a common entity that the American computer giant wants to acquire.

A potential chance to play “free”

This merger is currently being validated by the different competition authorities, both in the United States, Europe and the United Kingdom. But if the acquisition comes to an end, it is likely that all the Activision, Blizzard and King titles will end up in Game Pass, Microsoft’s catalog of subscription video games.

However, the integration or not of these games in the Game Pass becomes a question of marketing. Diablo IV has been announced for June 6. But a beta version of the franchise’s next installment will be available this weekend, March 17-19, as well as March 24-26. The only problem is that only people who have reserved (and therefore paid in advance) Diablo IV will be able to access the first slot. The second will be open to all.

Therefore, many players seem to be torn between the desire to access the game as soon as possible, expected for more than ten years, and the hope that the title will be accessible “for free” through Microsoft’s Game Pass in the near future. , as the points to the IGN site. This is also implied by Diablo IV General Manager Rod Fergusson’s statement.

An operation not yet registered

During its previous operations, Microsoft has always made available the titles of the studies it took in its subscription offer. This was particularly the case with the acquisition of the ZeniMAx Media group, whose main subsidiary is Bethesda. The studio’s iconic sagas were quickly integrated into Game Pass. Thus, players subscribed to the service had access to Fallout, Elder Scrolls or even Doom licenses. This will also be the case with Bethesda’s next game, Starfield, due out on September 6.

Therefore, Rod Fergusson insists here on the fact that the merger between Microsoft and Activision has not yet been finalized. It is also difficult to prove him wrong as the British competition authority always points to a risk of imbalance in the video game sector. Above all, the concessions offered by the IT group leave the British regulator in doubt while its European counterpart finds its account.
