Did you finish the metaverse? Mark Zuckerberg wants to make AI’s “biggest investment ever” Facebook

The head of Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Messenger and Instagram, said in a letter to staff that “the group’s biggest investment” would be in artificial intelligence.

After staking everything on the metaverse, Mark Zuckerberg is making artificial intelligence his priority. “Our most important investment is advancing AI and integrating it into each of our products,” the Meta Group boss said in a letter to staff on Tuesday.

“We have the infrastructure to do this on an unprecedented scale and I think the experiences that this will enable will be incredible,” he added. The Facebook founder notably highlighted AI tools for “discovering new content” or “helping engineers write better code faster.”

“Our cutting-edge work in building the metaverse and shaping the next generation of computing platforms also remains critical in defining the future of social connection,” Zuckerberg said. However, the virtual world no longer seems to be a priority for the American billionaire.

speech change

In early February, the Facebook boss had made comments that contrasted with his complete confidence in his metaverse. Given the success of multiple artificial intelligence tools and after a 60% drop in Facebook’s share price in 2022, Mark Zuckerberg refocuses his speech to reassure investors.

“The two technological waves that guide our projects are artificial intelligence and, in the longer term, the metaverse,” said Mark Zuckerberg. His metaverse raises many doubts and does not attract the general public. Last September, Facebook had mentioned the horizon of a decade to show its full potential.

Another sign of this shift in discourse: In 2022, the term “metaverse” was mentioned fifteen times during exchanges with financial analysts, up from just seven in 2023, following mention of Facebook’s work on artificial intelligence.

“Artificial intelligence is the basis of our visualization tool and of our advertising activity”, Mark Zuckerberg had also estimated, who specified that he is very interested in “generative” artificial intelligence, whether textual (such as ChatGPT) or visual (such as Dall-E). .
