The United Kingdom announces this Thursday, March 16, the immediate ban of TikTok on government devices. A choice that is explained by the many fears that TikTok arouses in relation to cybersecurity and the company’s proximity to the Chinese government.

For several months now, the Chinese social network has been the target of the authorities and governments of various Western countries, starting with the United States. Particularly popular with young people, the platform recently admitted that it sent some user data to China.
In France, TikTok is the subject of a commission of inquiry in the Senate, in order to estimate the potential risks of the application regarding the personal data of the French. Fears that are also related to its recommendation algorithm, accused of generating significant addiction among adolescents.
In February 2022, the National Assembly also established an awareness campaign for MPs on the use of the platform on their smartphones.
On March 15, the Wall Street Journal revealed that the Biden administration was threatening to ban TikTok in the entire US market if the platform remained under the Chinese banner.
