Shoemakers are not always the best footwear. Artemis Seaford, who worked for Facebook in the field of cybersecurity, fell victim to powerful spyware, reveals the New York Times. Called Predator, the tool allows you to spy on a smartphone remotely. It was installed while the Greek-American employee of the US giant was working partly in Greece, and was intercepted by the country’s intelligence services.
Spy scandal in Greece
Asked by him New York Times, the Greek government spokesman assures that the local authorities have never acquired the Predator software from the company (also Greek) that markets it. “The alleged use of this software by non-governmental organizations is the subject of a judicial investigation”, he also assures.
For now, the reasons for spying on Artemis Seaford, who left Facebook at the end of 2022, are unknown. As the American newspaper recalls, his smartphone was attacked by spyware in September 2021, when he had made an appointment to get vaccinated against Covid -19.
He immediately received a fake confirmation SMS containing a corrupted link, suggesting that hackers had access to the data linked to this quote.
With the New York Times, Artemis Seaford claims to not understand why she was attacked, while Facebook refused to respond. These revelations are also part of a spying scandal that has rocked the country for several months, with the same spyware being used this time targeting political opponents and journalists.
