Operational again, the National Assembly site experienced major failures on Monday, March 27. At noon, and until the end of the afternoon, the hackers prevented access to Internet users, which caused the institution to display a message that evoked “maintenance.”
In a press release, the National Assembly confirms that it is indeed a denial of service attack, which consists of saturating the servers of a website to prevent access.
“This Monday, March 27, 2023, the website of the National Assembly was the subject of a significant influx of requests that led IT services to maintenance operations”, specifies the National Assembly, which evokes a coordinated action of origin ” indeterminate”.
No impact on data
In the same press release, Yaël Braun-Pivet, president of the National Assembly, “strongly condemns” this attack, which mobilized the technical teams until the site came back online around 4:45 p.m.
If the National Assembly does not communicate about the origin of this cyberattack, all eyes are on Russia. On Telegram, a group of pro-Russian hackers quickly claimed responsibility for this action, mentioning in particular France’s aid to Ukraine. This type of attack, which is based on massive connections, is usually symbolic and is not accompanied by any intrusion into the target’s computer networks.
