“It’s early this Wednesday, 8:25, that’s what I’m saying.” Giving the time in rhyme, the idea is fun. But it is even more so when the mini-poems automatically appear on a screen. This is what an Internet user has done using the artificial intelligence of ChatGPT.
Designer and blogger Matt Webb has created a smart digital watch. At home, an electronic paper screen writes a different poem every minute to tell the time in a fun way. Everything is powered by a Raspberry Pi microcomputer.
Previously, Matt Webb had already installed this device to show a real dial, he explained to the American medium The Verge. He also played a lot with the OpenAI artificial intelligence model. Until the day he decided to connect the two.
A plug-and-play solution
The designer uses the OpenAI programming interface to automatically generate your poems every minute. It still uses time as one of its request parameters.
Faced with an enthusiastic reception to his creation, Matt Webb now wants to make it accessible. But the designer would like to create kits so that people can create their own device right at home. He also tries to imagine a plug-and-play solution so that buyers only have to plug in the watch to enjoy it.
And for people who don’t want to design or buy their smartwatch, one site offers to display poem proposals. For now, there is no French version available, but all it takes is a request to ChatGPT to fix it.
