In a tweet that garnered more than 150,000 likes, former US President Donald Trump’s son Eric shared an image of his father walking with a crowd of supporters on an avenue lined with American flags in New York. Problem: This photo was taken by a generative AI, presumably Midjourney.

A few days earlier, the former head of state was charged in the “Stormy Daniels” case, where he is accused of having bought the silence of this pornographic actress with whom he allegedly had an affair with funds from his presidential campaign in 2016.
At a time when it’s increasingly difficult to distinguish AI-generated images, a few clues may lead us on the way.
First of all, the fact that there is no trace of this scene anywhere else in the media or on the Internet.
Then some faces and hands look distorted and unrealistic. The flags are not attached to anything and the number of stripes varies. The shadows are not consistent: Trump’s leg has none. The car parked on the right has two mirrors, one in front and one behind.
Finally, in the right corner of the image, we notice a signature: that of @Brick_Suit, the pro-Trump internet user who made it. Inside an earlier tweet from April 3claims paternity.
Trump had already shared an AI-generated image of himself in the past, Le Monde notes, and numerous fake news photos, including Trump being arrested by police, had circulated widely on social media.
