The Meta group is in the process of cutting around 10,000 positions. This wave of layoffs, announced in mid-March, follows the first restructuring plan in the company’s history, which took place at the end of 2022. Among the employees leaving, site specialist The Verge ensures that the teams of moderation are greatly affected.
“Protect our community”
According to US media, most of those in charge of fighting disinformation were fired this week. Nearly fifty employees were in charge of preventing the dissemination and dissemination of false information, both on Facebook and on Instagram.
“Flattening the organization” was one of Mark Zuckerberg’s goals when he announced this new social plan. Therefore, the company appears to have assembled teams working on similar issues. The few moderators who escaped firing have joined a new, larger team working on similar issues.
Before the announcement of a second wave of layoffs, Facebook employees had complained that they were being paid to do nothing. They pointed to an extremely long internal project validation process, which resulted in longer delivery times.
