Every day, more than one in four French people play a video game. Whether on a television screen, on a computer or on a smartphone, 17 million people practice this activity. This figure was published as part of the Global Video study carried out by Médiamétrie between October and December 2022.
According to this study, the average French player is 35 years old. The population is predominantly male (57%). But Médiamétrie assures that this typical profile can vary depending on the medium in which they are reproduced. Thus, players who use a digital screen, such as a smartphone or tablet, are generally older than those who practice on a television screen.
People over 50 years ahead of those between 15 and 24 years old
However, all media combined, the Global Video study reveals that older people are the most diligent in their practice. On a typical day, those over 50 account for one in four players (25%). The population between 15 and 24 years only occupies the second place (23%).
The Médiamétrie Global Video study also specifies that almost all gamers like video content. Thus, 92% of them watch at least one program a day, whether it is broadcast on television, on the Internet or on a streaming platform.
Médiamétrie also points to the presence of programs directly linked to the world of video games on platforms such as Netflix (The Wizard) or Amazon Prime Video (The last of us).
