The repair bonus will double: how to take advantage of it?

In force from December 15, 2022, the repair voucher is struggling to make itself known among the French, since only 20,000 people have benefited from the device. To attract more people, the bonus amount will be doubled for all teams starting July 1.

To benefit from the device, you must go to a certified repairer QualiRepair whose list is available in this site. A wide range of devices can be repaired, from vacuum cleaners to ovens, computers, smartphones and coffee machines. (full list available here).

However, some conditions must be met: the devices must no longer be covered by a warranty, including an extended warranty, not be covered by insurance, and the device must have an identification number.

The repair voucher established by the anti-waste law of 2020 allows consumers to benefit from a guaranteed and cheaper repair of an appliance. The French remain cautious since according to the Ecological Transition Agency (ADEME) in 2019, only 10% of defective out-of-warranty devices were repaired.

To attract more consumers, not only will the amount be doubled, but new repairs will be supported, such as the replacement of smartphone screens, one of the most requested.

Thus, the amounts will double as follows: from 15 to 30 euros for a vacuum cleaner, a drill or an electric scooter, from 25 to 50 euros for a washing machine, a touchpad or a mobile phone, from 30 to 60 euros for a television, from 45 to 90 euros the laptop.

Increase the number of authorized workshops

To improve its accessibility, the number of repairmen, currently 1,200, will increase to 4,000 by the end of the year. Big players in the sector like Fnac Darty could be forced to join the system. Anyway, that’s what announced by the Secretary of State for Ecology Bérangère Couillard on April 20 during the meeting with eco-organizations, manufacturers and environmental associations.

Except the pool already has its in-house repair service that works on a subscription basis, and the bonus doesn’t apply to this type of service yet.

A fund of 410 million euros must finance the repair bond until 2027. Although an endowment of 62 million euros has been planned for the year 2023, in 4 months only 500,000 euros in bonds have been paid to the beneficiaries.
