With “Chat Lock”, WhatsApp aims to offer an additional alternative to its users to better protect their privacy. This new feature, announced on May 15, will make access to a private conversation possible only by entering a PIN code or the biometric data stored on the device (fingerprint or facial recognition).
Once enabled, the selected chat will appear in a secure folder separate from other conversations. Notifications related to this exchange will now be hidden and multimedia content (videos, photos, music, etc.) will no longer be stored by default on the phone and in the photo gallery.
It should also be noted that the feature is currently being rolled out and is not yet available on all smartphones.
How to block a private conversation
- In WhatsApp, open the chat you want to block.
- Once the chat is open, tap the person’s name or photo at the top of the screen to open the “Contact Information” page.
- Once the “Contact Information” page is open, choose the “Chat Block” option from the menu.
Before the release of “Chat Lock”, WhatsApp had already implemented an option that allows you to increase the protection of your privacy by configuring the conditions of access to the application from the settings of your smartphone. An evolution that thus made it possible to block global access to the application with a password.
