The police and the gendarmerie will now be able to count on the support of drones equipped with cameras to fight against the phenomenon of urban rodeos. The Haute-Garonne and Gironde prefectures have given their approval by respectively issuing a decree to that effect, report France Blue Gironde and France Bleu Occitanie.
The latter authorizes the use of these aircraft by the police to prevent illegal races from taking place in the urban areas of Bordeaux and Toulouse. This authorization, in force in Toulouse from May 18 to July 18 and in Bordeaux until June 11, will be restricted to a predefined geographical area.
In the Gironde, three areas are involved in Bruges and Bordeaux. In Haute-Garonne, the specific areas of action are focused on Toulouse, Blagnac, Colomiers, Tournefeuille, Aussonne, Balma, Beauzelle, Castelnau-d’Estrétefonds, Cornebarrieu, Escalquens, Labège, Muret, Portet-sur-Garonne and Roques-sur – Garonne
The Haute-Garonne Prefecture justifies the use of drones by the fact that urban rodeos compromise “the safety of users and residents” and induce “considerable noise pollution”.
