To prevent information leaks, Apple prohibits employees from using ChatGPT

The American company now prohibits its teams from using the OpenAI chatbot. Apple is concerned that the chatbot will transmit and collect sensitive data.

After Amazon, Verizon or Samsung, it’s Apple’s turn to ban its employees from using ChatGPT. The American giant wants its teams to stop using the chatbot for professional purposes, according to an internal document revealed by the Wall Street Journal.

Used for many tasks, the OpenAI chatbot can, in particular, code or help with the development of presentations, which some Apple employees would have done. Therefore, the company is concerned that OpenAI will not be able to collect or view this type of conversation.

Conversations saved for 30 days

OpenAI saves all conversations between a user and ChatGPT, for a period of 30 days, to, among other things, train the chatbot. However, a few weeks ago, a new feature was implemented to disable chat history.

According the bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, ChatGPT has been on the banned software list for several months. Another AI-based software would also be on the red list: GitHub Copilot. Jointly created by GitHub and OpenAI, this tool automatically generates code to help developers during their programming work.

This chatbot ban mainly echoes the announcement a few hours ago of the launch of the ChatGPT app, currently only available on the US App Store. An app available for free, and coming soon to everyone. Everyone, except perhaps Apple employees.
