Renewal for Twitter. The head of the social network, Elon Musk, has announced several new features since mid-May to bring them up to speed with competing instant messaging apps such as WhatsApp and Messenger (owned by Meta).
Latest news: voice notes, deployed this Friday, May 19. As is already done in competing applications, it is possible to send a voice message within a private conversation.
Since 2021, the social network has been testing the possibility of recording a voice note of up to 140 seconds. This test was carried out in only three countries: Brazil, Japan and India.
End-to-end encrypted messages
Another first: With the latest version of the app, private messages are now end-to-end encrypted as of May 11, according to the company.
HE end-to-end encryption secure digital exchanges. Applied to all types of messages (written, audio, video, etc.), this technology guarantees that only the people who send and receive the exchanges can access their content. This is made possible by a secret encryption key that encrypts the content for everyone else. It was an old sea serpent for Twitter.
While WhatsApp has been encrypted for several years, Messenger has been working on its default encryption since January. Elon Musk, who officially bought the social network in October 2022 for $44 billionit had raised the issue in April 2022, while acquisition negotiations were underway.
Integrate sending videos to private holds
Beyond encryption, Elon Musk announced the possibility of responding directly to a private message with any emoji, and not just with the traditional heart, as was currently the case. The social network will also allow you to reply to a specific message by quoting it in a conversation, which has already become an essential feature among competing apps.
Next step: develop sending videos for private messages. Since the acquisition, Elon Musk had given him a vision to revamp Twitter: to turn it into a “super app” on the model of the Chinese app WeChat. Essential in China, this application allows you to communicate with loved ones, go shopping or even request transportation.
