A message sent too fast on WhatsApp? You no longer need to delete it. This May 22, Facebook’s encrypted messaging announces the deployment of a new function: modifying a message. It comes in addition to the possibility of deleting a message already sent in a conversation.
To edit a message, just long press on it and then choose the “Edit” option. However, the application plays the card of transparency: the recipient (or the discussion group) will see a mention indicating that the message has been modified, as well as the version history of the latter.
With this new feature, WhatsApp imitates Apple, which introduced the ability to modify a sent message in its encrypted messaging app iMessage, only available on the iPhone. Just like with Apple, WhatsApp gives the user a 15-minute window to modify their message. Once this period has elapsed, the only solution will therefore be to delete it.
Please note that the rollout of this new option is ongoing worldwide. For French users, it’s likely to appear anytime in the next few weeks.
