It will have taken less than a week to cross the Atlantic: the ChatGPT mobile application, officially launched in the United States on May 18, arrives in France on May 25. At the moment, it is only available for users of Apple devices (at this address). Until then, Internet users had to use the web version of the OpenAI chatbot to get answers to all their questions.
But in order to succeed in having these answers, it is still necessary to succeed in downloading the application. What turns out to be a basic operation for any application is an obstacle course for ChatGPT.
When searching for “ChatGPT”, “OpenAI ChatGPT” or “OpenAI” in the App Store, it was impossible to find the official application offered by Sam Altman’s company. Even by scrolling through several lines, Internet users will only be able to find replicas of ChatGPT, “fake” applications that we must be careful of.
Top of the charts
These “copies” of ChatGPT basically work in the same way as the real version, except for one detail: users are promptly asked for their credit card number in order to benefit from all the application’s services. The official ChatGPT is still free for normal use. However, Internet users who want to benefit from more options can subscribe to the premium offer of ChatGPT Plus.
However, this absence in App Store searches is paradoxical, since the official ChatGPT application currently ranks fourth in the ranking of free applications on the App Store, and even first in the “Productivity” category.
Since its launch in November 2022, ChatGPT has already registered 4 billion visits, according to the company SimilarWeb.
