Starting June 26, the very few story users on YouTube will no longer be able to share their short videos. Since 2018, the platform has allowed accounts with more than 10,000 subscribers to post ephemeral videos. Unlike Instagram or Snapchat, which delete stories after 24 hours, those on YouTube disappeared after seven days.
A long lifespan that, however, never allowed this feature to find its audience. In fact, the option was very little known by users, who generally prefer classic content or Shorts, another short format available on YouTube. According to YouTube, this format would be popular among users with 1.5 billion users in 2022.
Not enough comments, likes and subscribers.
In a blog post, YouTube says it is removing stories to focus on other important features of the platform, in particular “Community Posts” (posts that can include photos, gifs, polls, etc.) and the famous Shorts.
The company especially highlights that community posts and shorts generate on average far more comments, new subscribers, and likes than stories. YouTube has also chosen to add certain features previously available in Story for creating and editing community posts, ahead of the introduction of new options later in the year.
