Soon your smartphone screen will be able to monitor your health. In any case, this is what Samsung Display, a subsidiary of the electronics giant Samsung specialized in screens, intends with Sensor OLED Display, its new OLED panel technology presented during SID Display Week 2023 that was held from May 23 to 25. in Los Angeles.
While most biometric sensors found in modern smartphones sit below their displays, as a separate module that only works in a limited area, Samsung Display’s innovative technology embeds them directly into the display panel. .
New health features
According to Samsung, the OLED sensor uses organic photodiodes (OPDs) that detect light and allow the entire panel to read fingerprints. In fact, the feature improves security by allowing multiple fingerprints to be registered to unlock a smartphone and making this operation faster.
Otherwise, simply by placing two fingers on the OLED Sensor screen, the latter can also assess various health parameters such as the user’s heart rate, blood pressure and stress level.
The screen is also capable of analyzing sleep patterns and providing essential data to improve health and well-being. An interesting perspective for future smartphones that in the future could offer health functions traditionally assigned to connected bracelets. Still in prototype state, Samsung has not indicated any release date for these displays.
