Discontent is rising among Twitter users. On the social network, many of them claim to have received dozens of false ads on May 30 in their private message space.
The messages in question leave no room for doubt: they all offer the same copy-pasted “job offer” in English, and are often sent by very recently created accounts, displaying photos of young women collected online. In addition, the names of the accounts complete the slightest doubt about the veracity of the ads: it is, in almost all cases, a series of numbers and letters, a trademark of the “bots”, automatic accounts.
While spam like this is common on Twitter, the current wave of fake messages seems to have grown to a pretty phenomenal scale, with dozens of messages being sent in a matter of minutes.
“We are looking for a new member to our energetic, enthusiastic and creative team. We offer a competitive salary of between 200 and 500 euros per hour. […] Please submit a resume and cover letter to our dedicated account,” the post read.
The message consists of a job offer with a particularly attractive salary, and contains a phone number to add to the WhatsApp or Telegram messaging services. The result is a very likely financial scam or a theft of personal data, especially since the message invites the user to send their CV and a cover letter.
This “wave of counterfeiting” is all the more surprising since Elon Musk has multiplied, in recent months, radical measures to end automated accounts and these invasive “bots”. An irony that has not escaped Internet users annoyed at being solicited in this way.
