Shooter Overwatch 2 will hold its first LGBT+ event during Pride Month. As of June 1, players will be able to choose flags with the image of the “queer” community, reports the specialized media the edge.
During this event, the game will offer players “LGBT+ Pride” themed cards and icons. Starting June 1, everyone who logs into Overwatch 2 will have access to a huge collection of cards that celebrate different identities. These cards allow the player to choose how they identify themselves in the game.
reinforced moderation
Since its release, Overwatch has stood out for the diversity of its characters. The heroine Tracera, an essential figure in the game, presented herself as a lesbian. In 2019, the developers confirmed Soldier: 76’s homosexuality. More recently, the character Lifeweaver was identified as pansexual. For this new event, Overwatch adds two characters: Baptiste presented as bisexual and Pharah, as a lesbian.
The developers are well aware that such an event will draw a host of hateful reactions. Questioned by the US media, they stress that moderation will be strengthened.
However, the event will not take place in all regions of the world. Overwatch blocks you in certain countries where LGBTQ+ content is censored or prohibited. For legal reasons, the developers could not share the list of blocked countries.
The world of video games isn’t always forgiving when it comes to representing diversity. Last April, Forbidden Horizon West it showed its heroine Aloy kissing a woman. A scene that got a torrent of bad ratings related to the game.
