More than 25 years have passed since Devil It comes to take players to the bowels with its dark and elegant atmosphere, its fights and its complexity. If Diablo, the historical villain, is no longer in the player’s way, he won’t necessarily win easily. It is his niece Lilith, obviously angry, who stands up to stop any adverse wishes. But don’t think that the game promises to be too difficult once again, the challenge is too hard to accept.
Yeah Diablo IV has been waiting for over a decade, it is about to rise from its ashes in style. And not just for license aficionados. He wants to offer his evil to as many people as possible.
The codes of the games of the moment to attract
And to get there, this fourth declension bets on the codes of the moment, without betraying its DNA. This one goes through many changes to seduce, starting with a character editor. From the beginning of the game, you have to choose between five character classes that will be ultra-customizable (barbarian, druid, necromancer, thief, wizard), enough to find happiness even for novices. “You can create your hero artistically with multiple options,” explains John Mueller, art director of Diablo IV. “Everything will be built around what you have created.”
“Devil it’s a game of choice,” recalls partner Joe Piepiora, the game’s associate director. From the start, players have the means to customize their character, to develop it at their convenience, according to their choices. “All of this will also have repercussions in the sequel ”, he also warns. Excessive customization that responds well to the new game standards when the player builds the experience for him, according to his tastes and not those of the creators.
To satisfy the greatest number, Blizzard has also opted for a much larger world, without falling into a classic open world. “We wanted to have an interconnected world around Sanctuary, with the player at the center of the story,” explains John Mueller. “Devil it’s always been designed that way, but in a pretty linear fashion. We wanted to modify, redefine certain things, ”adds her sidekick. “We really wanted to break down all the walls and let players explore, roam wherever they wanted. But they shouldn’t feel lost and we’ve worked to help with travel.”
On this vast map, the player will be much better oriented. The visualization will be clear and precise to achieve your goals. And there is enough to make you want to explore this still dark universe, but of an undeniable artistic quality. Diablo IV it’s beautiful, carried by the music which adds to the heavy atmosphere. It all gives rise to an atmosphere that also sometimes turns towards terror to bring the players.
More affordable, but not “as easy”
After the first open beta, fans of the license criticized the title for having become “too easy”. The creators deny it. “We did several beta versions, including one where we allowed players to get more loot early in the game,” explains Joe Piepiora. “It gave them faster access to gear that they’ll be looking for in the actual game later, so they’d want to play with it. So, yeah, they were a little more powerful overall, but it was a beta version.”
So if the game won’t be “easier” than its predecessors, everything has been thought of to make it easier to tackle, the two men promise. “We want to make sure that as many players as possible have the opportunity to discover devil IV, but we also do not want to disappoint the fans of the series. How much complexity can we remove from this experience to make it simpler? If it’s simpler, then in theory it should be easier for new players to get acclimated to the game. Devil“, defends John Mueller.
“Instead of removing complexity, we try to distribute it more carefully throughout the experience,” adds Joe Piepiora. And to accompany this experience, the narrative has been “complicated”, that is, reinforced to also make it more attractive to new players and much richer, which was not always the strong point of Devil.
First-time fans will be surprised too.
It’s always about angels and demons, and humans in between trying to survive. But it is not necessary to have done the first three to tackle this story that takes place 50 years after the last events of Diablo III. “The story is a great way to attract and give purpose. It is a piece of bread that is falling apart all over the world and the players, especially if they are new, will focus on the campaign and thus they will level up little by little, they will understand the mechanics of the game, of the fights ”, expects John Mueller .
don’t go thinking that Diablo IV he will forget his main archangels who have carried the saga for so long. Early adopters could also learn a lot more about Blizzard’s game than they think. “We kept our Dark Fantasy gothic spirit and explored characters from previous games that we never presented as they are. Even our longtime fans who know the game inside out will be amazed,” enthuses Joe Piepiora.
“It’s another way we wanted to make the game, also for the fans, and to surprise them.” Fans who had been disappointed by the arrival of immortal devil on mobile when they were desperate to see their universe again on PC and console. Then they showed no mercy to Blizzard. And the game boss admitted: “We heard them, we understood his disappointment and we took it into account. They were disappointed. But that’s really the Devil They were waiting, of that we are sure.
