For several months now, the artificial intelligence sector has been booming. With advantages, but also risks, especially in terms of data protection. Issues that the National Commission for Informatics and Liberties (Cnil) claims to take seriously.
“They ask us a lot of questions,” explains Bertrand Pailhès, director of technology and innovation at the Cnil. “Is my data being used to train these AIs? Can I object to them? Is it a problem if they make things up or not?”
The institution announced the main axes of its action plan. Firstly, understanding how these systems work and informing citizens about their rights in relation to them.
New regulations soon
It will also be necessary to juggle with the numerous international regulations in preparation – at the level of the European Union, alone or with the United States, of the G7… Each time with new obligations.
Rules that could harm French and European companies in the sector compared to their international competitors. That is why Cnil has decided to support three French startups (Contentsquare, Hugging Face and Lifen) “to make sure they protect data well while keeping up with the right pace. [par rapport à leurs concurrents]or even turn it into a competitive advantage”, specifies Bertrand Pailhès.
