Exploited by hackers, your photos become dangerous tools to rescue you

The FBI has issued an alert about the resurgence of fake pornographic content created from a simple image.

It has become the nightmare of many women -actresses or streamers- and risks becoming the norm for the entire population. On Monday, the FBI issued an alert to warn of the growing number of “sextortion” scams. Behind this term, the ransom requires pretexting any Internet user that a photo or video of him or her, of a pornographic nature, will be published if they do not pay a ransom.

Except that in the vast majority of cases, it’s a simple hoax by hackers who never have this famous content. But the massive arrival of deepfakes changes the situation. Now, with a simple photo, recovered from social networks, it is possible to create a sex video transforming the face of the actor or actress, with shocking realism.

children but not only

Actress Emma Watson, a scapegoat for some netizens, recently paid the price.

These images, now easy to produce, can also be used for cyberbullying, as recent cases have shown. These montages are obviously prohibited but they risk misleading more than one person, especially those who have never heard of deepfakes.

According to a recent study by the Observatory of Paternity and Digital Education, more than one in two parents has already published a photo or video of their child on social networks. Among them, 91% did so before the age of 5 and 43% at the time of birth.

In general, it is prudent not to distribute photos of your children to the general public, particularly by giving access to a post only to your close friends or subscribers. And now it would be a good idea to do this for all photos, regardless of age.
