“Criminals claim to belong to Banque de France staff (often the fraud department) and ask contacted people to cancel allegedly fraudulent operations, connecting to their personal banking space. In reality, people proceed to validation of operations for the benefit of criminals,” says the Banque de France in its press release published on June 7.
A scam that is all the more dangerous since, according to the Banque de France, the number that appears on the phone of potential victims is that of the institution. Scammers may also have personal information from their victims, including their bank details, giving a false sense of trust.
