Banque de France number was usurped to defraud people

Scammers pose as Banque de France staff and have banking information on their victims.

The Banque de France alerted, this Wednesday, June 7, of an attempted fraud usurping your identity and telephone number.

“Criminals claim to belong to Banque de France staff (often the fraud department) and ask contacted people to cancel allegedly fraudulent operations, connecting to their personal banking space. In reality, people proceed to validation of operations for the benefit of criminals,” says the Banque de France in its press release published on June 7.

A scam that is all the more dangerous since, according to the Banque de France, the number that appears on the phone of potential victims is that of the institution. Scammers may also have personal information from their victims, including their bank details, giving a false sense of trust.

never share information

The latter also remembers that he never requests the communication of bank details, personal information, or the validation or cancellation of a bank transaction, much less by phone.

If you are a victim of this type of scam, the procedure to follow is as follows: contact your bank to prevent them and, where appropriate, cancel fraudulent transactions, file a complaint or contact the “scam info” service. It is also possible to report the scam to avoid other victims on the dedicated government site.
