Tech giant Meta (parent company of Facebook, instagram andWhatsApp) is creating a social network to compete with Twitter, to launch it “as soon as possible”, according to the specialized media “The Verge”.

Chris Cox also highlighted that the app will be based on “security (and) being easy to use and reliable.”
The internal name of the social network is “Project 92”, and its public name could be “Threads” (threads in English), according to internal documents to which “The Verge” had access.
The new independent application will be based on Instagram and, according to the photographs published by the social network, it will be very similar to the comments section of Instagram, but with the option to repost other users’ messages, similar to “retweeting”. “.
The app will be integrated into ActivityPub, the open source decentralized protocol for social media, allowing users of the new app to bring their accounts and followers to other apps like Mastodon.
Chris Cox said that some celebrities have already committed to using the app, such as music producer DJ Slime. And he also said that he is in talks with personalities like the television presenter Oprah Winfrey and the Dalai Lama.
