The European Union announces more than 2,000 ME in support of Syrian refugees

The European Union’s head of diplomacy, Josep Borrell, announced this Thursday a support of more than €2 billion from the community bloc to Syrian refugees, €1.5 billion this year and the rest in 2024.

“I am delighted to confirm the pledge I made last year on behalf of the European Union of €1.5 billion for Syrians in Syria, refugees and their host communities in the region, for this calendar year from 2023.”declared Josep Borrell in the Belgian capital.

Speaking at the ministerial session of the Seventh Conference in Brussels on the future of Syria and the region, the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for the Common Foreign and Security Policy pledged that “in the calendar year 2024, the European Union will provide €560 million” .

According to Josep Borrell, “The aim of the annual conferences in Brussels has always been to show a beacon of hope for the Syrian people”.

“We’re here today to help keep that hope alive, I hope we continue to look for a way forward,” he said.

The “sincere hope” of the head of community diplomacy is also that “in the coming year different approaches can be combined to make progress towards peace in Syria,” he added.

“I have already set out very clearly the approach of the European Union, which remains unshakable. However, that does not mean that we are not willing to explore with our partners all possible ways to get the Syrian regime to commit to a solution .” policy for the conflict in Syria,” emphasized Josep Borrell.

This Thursday, the ministerial meeting on the future of Syria and the region will take place in Brussels, Brussels, after Thursday’s meetings with Syrian civil society, decision-makers and operational partners.

Now in its seventh annual edition, the Brussels Conference on the Future of Syria and the Region aims to address the humanitarian and critical issues faced by Syrians in Syria and neighboring countries, as well as those faced by communities living in Syria. refugees in the Syrian region.

The idea is to strengthen the international community’s political and financial support to Syria’s neighbors, namely Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey, as well as to Egypt and Iraq.
