A 21-year-old woman died on the night of Wednesday to Thursday after being violently attacked by a man on a tourist route in Germany.
According to the first elements of the investigation, reported by the Bavarian police in a statement, the tourist, accompanied by a 22-year-old friend, met a man on Wednesday on a hiking trail towards the Marienbrücke bridge, which overlooks the castle of Neuschwanstein. Police did not specify the nationality of the visitors.
The man, a 30-year-old American tourist, then found an excuse to take them on a “hard to see” path, which leads to an overlook. That’s when he physically assaulted the 21-year-old woman, in what investigators believe was an attempted sexual assault.
the man was arrested
“When the 22-year-old woman wanted to intervene, he strangled her and then pushed her down a steep incline,” police said. The man also pushed the 21-year-old woman down the slope, where she fell 50 meters. She was taken to the hospital by helicopter and she died from her injuries during the night. Her friend, also injured, was hospitalized.
The man fled but was arrested “a short time later” and taken into custody. Police are investigating murder, attempted murder and sexual offences.
