Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that the conflicts in the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), including the current one between Russia and Ukraine, were “obviously” the result of the “collapse of the Soviet Union”.
“Just look at what is happening now between Russia and Ukraine, what is happening on the borders of some countries of the former Soviet Union. All this is obviously a result of the collapse of the Soviet Union,” the Russian leader said, during a meeting with authorities of the member countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States, which brings together the former Soviet republics.
“We know that the West is creating scenarios to provoke new conflicts in the CIS space. But we already have enough (conflicts),” Putin added.
The Russian president also claimed that a “more just world order” is being formed to counter “a unipolar hegemony,” pushed by the West, which he said is “collapsed.”
“Holding on to the past and trying to carry out a policy of ‘dictancy’ [exigência absoluta imposta pelo mais forte] In all areas, from international relations to the economy, through culture and sports, this famous Western collective is creating new problems and new crises,” Putin explained.
On September 16, during an Asian regional summit, the Russian president had already presented his strategy as a counterweight to the Western order, praising the “increasing role of the new centers of power.”
The military offensive launched on February 24 by Russia in Ukraine has already caused the flight of more than 13 million people -more than six million internally displaced persons and more than 7.4 million to European countries-, according to the most recent data from the UN, which places this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since the Second World War (1939-1945).
The Russian invasion – justified by Russian President Vladimir Putin, with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russia’s security – was condemned by the international community in general, which has responded by sending weapons to Ukraine and imposing political sanctions on Russia. and economic. .
