The annual inflation rate of the euro zone fell, in May, to 6.1% and that of the European Union (EU) to 7.1%, driven by the decline in energy prices, announced this Friday Eurostat.

The slowdown in inflation in the euro zone is mainly due to the fall in energy prices, which registered deflation of 1.8% in May, compared to the year-on-year increase of 39.1% and the 2.3% registered in April.
The food, alcohol and tobacco component registered an inflation rate of 12.5% in May, compared to 7.5% in the same month of 2022 and 14.6% in April.
Excluding energy and unprocessed food components, the inflation rate in the Eurozone was 6.9% in May.
