The Minister of Foreign Affairs, João Gomes Cravinho, said this Friday that he was in contact with the British authorities to confirm if the detainee, suspected of having killed three people in Nottingham this week, has Portuguese nationality.
The news was reported by the British press, which identifies the suspect as Luso-Guinean and a resident of the United Kingdom for several years.
“We recently found out, this morning, that the suspect apparently has a Portuguese nationality. We are looking into the matter, but we will be in close contact with the British authorities on the matter,” he told reporters after meeting his British counterpart, James. Skillfully.
Cravinho added that “it is a horrible fact” and took “the opportunity to offer our deepest condolences” to the victims.

Nottingham police announced on Thursday they had been given a further 36 hours to question the suspect in the murder of three people and the wounding of three others.
“A team of dedicated detectives continues to question the suspect and build a strong picture of what happened that morning,” police explained.
The investigation is reviewing video surveillance footage, forensic analysis, eyewitness accounts and has searched multiple properties across the city.
Police believe the suspect attacked two 19-year-old Nottingham University students with a knife and killed another 65-year-old man before stealing their van.
He then tried to run over three people on different occasions, with one still hospitalized in serious condition.
The police detained the suspect using a ‘taser’ when the vehicle was stopped.
