The Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, has warned this Monday that Sudan is submerged “into death and destruction at an unprecedented rate”, and has called for greater international support for this African country.
“Without strong international support, Sudan could quickly become a place of anarchy, causing insecurity throughout the region,” warned Guterres, at the opening of a conference to raise funds to respond to the humanitarian crisis, quoted by Agence France- Press.

At least 1,073 people have been killed and more than 11,700 injured in Sudan in the two-month conflict between two military forces for power, the United Nations has announced.
“The situation in Darfur and Khartoum is catastrophic. The fighting is fierce and people are attacked in their homes and in the streets,” said António Guterres, adding: “Before the start of this conflict, Sudan was already facing a humanitarian crisis, but it has now become a catastrophe affecting more than half of the country’s population… it is crucial to prevent the situation from deteriorating further.”
The only way to end the crisis is a return to peace and the restoration of civil power, Guterres defended.
The United Nations launched two appeals to donors to deal with the crisis: humanitarian aid in Sudan itself and aid to refugees in host countries, for a total of 3,000 million dollars, some 2,700 million euros, this year, but so far they have been financed at less than 17%.
Many of the UN officials responsible for emergency relief pointed out that funds for Ukraine were disbursed quickly, just weeks after the Russian invasion, but donors were more timid about Sudan, even though the humanitarian crisis was already it was serious long before the current fighting. .
The Geneva donors’ conference aims to give a new impetus to international financial aid, and is co-sponsored by the UN humanitarian agency and its High Commissioner for Refugees, along with Egypt, which hosts a large number of refugees, Germany, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. as well as the African Union and the European Union.
