At least four people died on Tuesday in an explosion that took place at a gunpowder factory in the Tambov region, located 420 kilometers southeast of Moscow, local emergency services told the TASS news agency.
The head of the Russian region of Tambov, Maxim Yegorov, said on the Telegram social network that “unfortunately there were victims”, but did not specify the exact number.
In addition, two people were injured in the incident, according to the TASS agency.
The person in charge of the region also clarified that the reason for the explosion was a fire caused by a “human factor.”
“I can say for sure that this was not a terrorist attack,” Maxim Yegorov added.
