More than 150,000 signatures were delivered this Tuesday to the Superior Electoral Court (STE), in a petition titled “It’s time for Jair,” which seeks to appeal to judges not to ban former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro for the next eight years. to qualify.

At a press conference, in the Chamber of Deputies, in Brasília, a few meters from the TSE, organized by more than 20 civil society organizations, the deputy of the Party of Socialism and Freedom (Psol) Sâmia Bonfim spoke about the importance of the petition , which judges say demonstrates “popular support”.
Jair Bolsonaro, he said, committed a “series of crimes” including “attacks on the electoral system” and “the will of the people” during the 2022 presidential election won by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
The former president is accused of launching attacks on the voting system in 2022, when he was still head of state, with the prosecution calling for the loss of political rights for eight years.

Jair Bolsonaro, recalled, now that he has “lost the right to a privileged forum”, he will still have to be tried for other crimes.
In addition to the cases he faces at the TSE, the retired army captain, who returned to Brazil from the United States at the end of March, is being investigated in a dozen cases in ordinary courts and at least six in the Federal Supreme Court.
One of them is investigating the attack by thousands of Bolsonaro supporters on the headquarters of the three powers in Brasília on January 8, allegedly intent on forcing a coup against the current president, Lula da Silva.
Brazil’s Congress has also created a Joint Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry that will investigate the coup attempt and acts of vandalism promoted by Bolsonaro supporters on January 8.
