This Tuesday, the PCP asked European Parliament President Roberta Metsola if she is not troubled by a power in Kiev backed by “Nazi-like forces” that is “murdering the population”.
During the press conference to present the conclusions of the PCP parliamentary days, which took place over two days in Serra da Estrela, the communist parliamentary leader, Paula Santos, was asked about the statements of the Ukrainian defense minister this Monday, who praised the speech of the President of the European Parliament in the Assembly of the Republic, in which she challenged the PCP to go to Kiev.
in reply, Paula Santos accused Roberta Metsola to have one “attitude of arrogance and interference”but also from “deep hypocrisy”with the argument that the European Union (EU) has sought “feeding and inciting war”instead of trying to end the conflict.
“What exists in Ukraine is a simulacrum of parliament, because there is no free speech: we are talking about a power that has outlawed the left, democratic, progressive forces of parliament,” he underlined.
The PCP’s parliamentary leader believed that Kiev’s power is “maintained by Nazi-like forces” and “has led to suffering, even prevents the exercise of the right of expression, promotes arrest and murder”.
“This should really bother the President of the European Parliament. I ask: if it doesn’t bother you that there is an obstacle to free speech? If it doesn’t bother you that you are killing the population and people of Ukraine, with the development of this war, and that stems a lot from this Nazi power?” he asked.
Paula Santos defended that “the position expressed by the PCP is the one expressing solidarity with the people of Ukraine, who have always been on the side of the people of Ukraine, who have been the real victims of this war”.
“What we are considering and what we have said from the beginning, in 2014, is the need to stop this conflict, to stop the confrontation, to find a peaceful solution to solve this problem,” he said .
During the visits of six African countries to Ukraine and Moscow this weekend, with a view to promoting a peace plan, Paula Santos defended that in addition to these countries, there were also peace initiatives from Latin America and Asia.
“Oddly enough, on the part of the United States, of the EU, what is seen with NATO is actually a path that is contrary to the need for peace at this time,” he said.
On Monday, Ukraine’s Defense Minister praised Metsola’s speech at the Assembly of the Republic, playing a video of European Parliament President Paula Santos addressing her to challenge her to go to Kiev.
“Brilliant example of Roberta Metsola fighting hypocrisy and ‘reconciliation’ with honesty and truth,” stressed Oleksii Reznikov in a publication on the social network Twitter, thanking Metsola for “dedication and support” to “Ukraine and democracy”.
Roberta Metsola on Friday challenged communist deputy Paula Santos to speak in Kiev’s parliament in front of Ukrainian deputies.
“I have decided to speak in the parliament of Ukraine on April 1, 2022. [deputada Paula Santos] to say what you said here in front of the Ukrainian delegates. To talk to those deputies who don’t talk to women for weeks, whose children can’t go to school (…). It’s not about sitting down and getting people to negotiate, it’s about getting Russia out of Ukraine. No more, no less,” Metsola told the PCP delegate.
