A billionaire, a Frenchman… Who are the 5 passengers on board the submarine that disappeared near the Titanic?

Five people are missing since the Titan tourist submersible stopped responding to communications on Sunday. Among them, a Frenchman, Paul-Henri Nargeolet.

The countdown continues. Rescuers continue to search for the missing submarine near the Titanic on Tuesday. During a press conference organized at 7:00 p.m. French time, the US coast guard estimated that there were approximately 40 hours of oxygen left on board the submersible for the five passengers present on the ship. But who are the disappeared?

• Explorer Hamish Harding

On June 18, just before boarding the Titan tourist submarine, billionaire Hamish Harding posed looking into space. A few hours later, the man who explored space and the seabed disappeared among the waves. A tourist outing paid $250,000 for the adventurer of the seas.

The 58-year-old businessman said he was “proud” to join the OceanGate Expeditions crew. This father of two children holds several Guinness records, such as the fastest circumnavigation of the Earth by plane passing through the two poles. A feat accomplished in 46 hours, 40 minutes and 22 seconds.

• French Paul-Henry Nargeolet

The man who presumably guided the Titan to its destination is Frenchman Paul-Henry Nargeolet. He is a former National Navy officer now based in the United States and is the director of the underwater research program on the shipwreck, employed by the company RMS Titanic Inc.

During his career, the 77-year-old has dove many times towards the wreckage of the liner.
