At least three people have died in tornadoes in the United States

Wednesday night’s severe storms and tornadoes in the Rolling Plains region of Texas, which caused significant damage in the town of Matador, killed at least three people, the local press reported Thursday.

The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported Thursday that the storms brought hail and wind gusts of up to 100 miles per hour in other communities, including the city of Jayton, which was also on high alert as the line of tornadoes moved southeast Wednesday evening. according to the National Weather Service in Lubbock.

Matador mayor Pat Smith said at least three people were killed, others may have been injured and there was “extensive damage” to property, according to The New York Times.

The heaviest damage occurred in Matador, a town of about 570 people located 70 miles northeast of Lubbock in Motley County.

Reports and images from storm chasers and meteorologists on social media showed significant damage in Matador, with homes and utilities severely damaged and trees toppled.

The storm hit the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison Colorado as many people were preparing for a show by former member of One Direction Louis Tomlinson. The concert had to be cancelled.



Lubbock firefighters confirmed to the Avalanche Journal that they were sending a team to help repair the damage and assist civilians in the affected area.

The University Medical Center in Lubbock confirmed that it was sending its mobile medical unit to Matador.

A new tornado warning has been issued for Dickens and King counties through Thursday night, according to a statement from the Weather Service on Twitter.
