Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reacted to the seizure of the city of Rostov by the Wagner paramilitary group as an example of Russia’s self-destruction as a result of its decision to invade Ukrainian territory.
“Whoever chooses the path of evil destroys himself,” Zelensky said on his Twitter account, in his first statement after what happened.
“Russia has long used propaganda to mask the weakness and stupidity of its government,” he said.

The Ukrainian head of state then referred to today’s speech by Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which he recalled the ghosts of the 1917 war to repudiate Wagner’s advance and say that he will reject a “civil war.”
“This all comes from one person, who scared us over and over again with the year 1917, knowing that it couldn’t lead to anything other than this,” Zelensky added.
