American intelligence already suspected the uprising of the leader of the Wagner group

US intelligence officials suspected that the leader of the Wagner group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, was planning an uprising against the Russian government, several US media reported on Sunday, citing anonymous sources. According to these sources, this information was shared with military personnel, US government officials and some members of Congress.

Earlier this week, some members of Congress were briefed by intelligence agencies about the movements of the Wagner group and the accumulation of war materials near Russia, according to CNN. American and Western intelligence agencies saw signs that Prigozhin was preparing for this uprising, including hoarding weapons and ammunition.

In mid-June, intelligence agencies seized information indicating that the leader of the Wagner group was planning armed action, according to The Washington Post, and notified the White House and other government agencies.

However, the US services had no precise information on when this action might take place until events accelerated last Friday.

Washington only shared information about this uprising with a select group of people to avoid being accused of orchestrating a coup and also because they had little interest in helping Putin avoid this crisis, according to The New York Times.

For the past two weeks, there has been “great concern” about what might happen and, more importantly, what an unstable situation could mean for Russian control of its nuclear arsenal.

After a very tense Saturday, Prigozhin suspended the movements of the uprising in Russia against the military command at the end of the afternoon, less than 24 hours after the occupation of Rostov, a strategic city in the south of the country for the war in Ukraine .

The Kremlin later announced that the leader of the Wagner paramilitary group, Yevgueni Prigozhin, the protagonist of an attempted armed insurrection in Russia, would leave for Belarus, assuring that Russian justice will not prosecute him or his fighters criminally .

“The criminal case against him will be dropped. And he will go to Belarus,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the press about the leader of the Russian mercenary group.

“No one will chase [os combatentes que o seguiram]taking into account his achievements on the Ukrainian front,” added Peskov.

Prigozhin today suspended movements of the uprising in Russia against the military command, less than 24 hours after occupying Rostov, a strategic city in the south of the country for the war in Ukraine.
