Joe Biden said Monday that it was “too early to draw definitive conclusions” after the Wagner group’s failed rebellion in Russia this weekend, with which he assured that Westerners “have nothing to do with it.”
“We were not involved. We have nothing to do with these events”, stressed the US president, referring in particular to NATO, before adding:
“It was an internal problem in Russia,” added Joe Biden
He assured that the Americans and their allies did not want to “give (Russian President Vladimir) Putin any pretext to accuse the West and accuse NATO.”
It is “important” that Westerners remain “totally coordinated”, he also said, recalling that he had spoken on Saturday with various heads of state and government, and indicated that he recounted their conversations on Monday.
“In constant contact” with Volodymyr Zelensky
Joe Biden also intends to remain in “constant contact” with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, with whom he spoke on Sunday to reassure him of US support.
The spectacular outfit of the Wagner paramilitary group between Friday night and Saturday night shook Russia.
Within 24 hours, Yevgeni Prigojine’s forces seized several military sites in the strategic southwestern city of Rostov and traveled hundreds of kilometers toward Moscow.
The Wagner leader put an end to his rebellion on Saturday night, in exchange for the immunity promised by the Kremlin for him and his men.
