The strike by customer service workers at Geneva airport has already led to the cancellation of 64 flights, affecting 8,000 passengers, and although it was expected to last four hours, it was extended to Saturday.
The strike was scheduled to take place this Friday between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. local time, but was extended to Saturday, coinciding with the start of the summer holiday, on days when about 54,000 passengers are expected to pass through the terminal on 394 flights.
The main airlines affected were EasyJet, with 18 cancellations, and Swiss airline Swiss, with 13.
The reason for this protest is the adoption of a new wage policy that will freeze wage increases for the 240 workers at Geneva airport.
The airport’s website is experiencing disruption due to high demand for access requests from affected travelers to check the status of their flights.
