Nahel Merzouk’s friend, who was also in the car when the police shot the teenager in Nanterre, decided to turn himself in to the police.
The young man will make an official statement this Monday, after he already released his version of events last week, in a video broadcast on social networks that the television channel BFMTV considered authentic.
Nahel was the driver of a Mercedes with two passengers. One of them was immediately arrested and the third young man fled, according to him, afraid that the police would kill him too.
According to this witness, the police stopped the car and immediately threatened him. “Switch off the engine or shoot” and “don’t move or I’ll put a bullet in your head,” one of the officers said as he placed the gun to the 17-year-old’s head, while another officer cheered. him to shoot.

“The first policeman hit him with the butt,” the young man describes, which he believes led Nahel to take his foot off the brake, causing the automatic-gearbox Mercedes to start up.
One of the policemen fired and at that moment Nahel stepped on the accelerator and the car ended up crashing into a barrier. “I saw him die,” says the friend.
The young man also ensures that none of the three boys was drunk or under the influence of drugs. They barely circulated in the bus lane.
The police officer who punched Nahel in the arm and chest is in custody, charged with murder.
