The non-governmental organization Doctors Without Borders (MSF) rescued 51 migrants in international waters near Malta on Monday.
“Our team, aboard the GeoBarents, rescued 51 people, including a woman and nine children, six of whom were unaccompanied and rescue (SAR) from Malta,” the non-governmental organization (NGO) said on the web. social Twitter.
Everyone is safe and being cared for, the NGO said, adding that the operation had air support from the NGO Pilotos Voluntários, responsible for aerial observation in the central Mediterranean.
In 2023, 1,724 migrants, including 63 minors, died or disappeared on the central Mediterranean route, according to data from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Missing Migrants project.
