Attacks on annexed regions will be aggression against Russia, Kremlin . says

On the day that Russia formalizes the annexation of Ukraine’s Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporijia regions, where separatist authorities held so-called referendums, the Kremlin announced that attacks on these areas will be considered acts of aggression against the country. “It won’t be anything else,” the Kremlin spokesman said Friday, quoted by CNN International.

However, Dmitry Peskov said it was necessary to “clarify” the exact borders of Ukraine’s Kherson and Zaporijia regions.

“The Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics are recognized by Russia within the borders of 2014. As for the territory of the Kherson and Zaporijia regions, I must clarify that I cannot answer this question now,” Peskov said shortly before the ceremony in which the Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to formalize the annexation of Ukraine’s four regions.

It is recalled that in these areas, wholly or partly occupied by Moscow’s troops, the so-called referendums of annexation to Russia were held, which Kiev and its Western allies considered “illegal”.

Now, Russia is formalizing this Friday the annexation of these areas, which was already expected after the “vote” in the areas under Russian occupation in Ukraine, whose inhabitants, Moscow claimed, overwhelmingly supported the formal annexation of these areas by Russia.

The ceremony making the annexation official will take place early this afternoon in the Kremlin, in the presence of separatist leaders from the four regions, who will sign the treaties to join Russia. An event where Russian President Vladimir Putin will deliver a speech.
