The new social network Threads, from the technological giant Meta, will be available from 00:00 on Thursday, but not in the countries of the European Union (EU) and in the smart phones with Android operating system.
The launch of Threads (which means threads in Portuguese) was initially scheduled for 3:00 p.m. (Lisbon time) on Thursday, but the company brought it forward to 12:00 a.m.
With this new social network, which will be linked to another, Instagram, Meta intends to dethrone its rival Twitter, owned by magnate Elon Musk.
Meta owns the social networks Instagram and Facebook and the mobile messaging and calling application WhatsApp.
According to the American digital newspaper Politico, the new social network will not be available in the EU for the time being, since Meta, founded by tycoon Mark Zuckerberg, fears a breach of data protection regulations in the community space.
On Tuesday, Elon Musk was quick to criticize Threads, saying the social network will collect all kinds of data from users, including identity, health and fitness, financial information, location, purchases, contacts and “sensitive information.”
