Plane was “too heavy” and EasyJet asked 20 passengers to disembark

Crew members of an EasyJet flight this Wednesday asked several passengers to leave the plane because it was “too heavy” as the plane was about to take off.

The moment took place at the airport of Lanzarote, Spain. In a video shared on social networks and reproduced by the British media, it is possible to hear the flight attendant explaining why he asked some passengers to leave.

“Because there are a lot of people, the plane is too heavy. That weight, in combination with a short runway and wind, is not favorable at the moment, making the plane too heavy to take off”explained the flight attendant, who said they couldn’t take off in those conditions for safety reasons.

So the official asked 20 volunteers to choose to leave the plane, adding that there would be an incentive for those who did. “We can offer up to 500 euros to passengers who do not want to fly tonight”announced.

According to The independentquoting an airline spokesperson, 19 people left the plane and eventually boarded a later flight.

The journey, which was destined for Liverpool, in the United Kingdom, was scheduled to depart at 9:45 p.m. local time, but ended at 11:30 p.m.
