At least 24 civilians found dead in cars in northeastern Ukraine

“A caravan of cars with dead civilians on board has been discovered,” the governor said on his social media account Telegram, reporting the deaths of “24 people, including a pregnant woman and 13 children.”

“The inhabitants” [russos] attacked the civilians trying to escape the bombings,” Synegoubov denounced.

The attorney general’s office speaks of seven cars in the caravan hit by the Russian attack, where children were accompanied by their parents.

At least 11 other bodies of civilians were also found on Friday, shot in their cars, in a caravan fleeing Russian attacks at a site where clashes between Ukrainian and Russian forces had recently taken place.

In light of the Ukrainian counter-offensive that has taken place in recent days, Russian soldiers have retreated to the east, crossing the Oskil River, where they face forces commanded by Kiev.

On Thursday, a pro-Russian separatist official accused the Ukrainian army of shooting at a car caravan carrying civilians in the Kharkiv region, reportedly killing 30 people.

The military offensive launched by Russia in Ukraine on Feb. 24 has already resulted in more than 13 million people having fled — more than six million internally displaced persons and more than 7.4 million to European countries — according to the most recent UN data, which rank this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since World War II (1939-1945).

The Russian invasion – justified by Russian President Vladimir Putin, with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russia’s security – was condemned by the generality of the international community, which has responded by sending arms to Ukraine and Russia of political and economic sanctions.
