Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky highlighted this morning the new military aid from the allies in “air defense, missiles, armored vehicles and artillery” obtained at the NATO summit that ended on Wednesday in Vilnius, Lithuania.
“We returned home with a good result for our country and, very importantly, for our fighters: a good reinforcement of armaments,” Zelensky said in a speech to the nation, recorded from the train that brought him back to Kiev after the top. .
Zelensky also highlighted the “security guarantees” that the G7 governments, the world’s seven most industrialized democracies, pledged to negotiate with Ukraine before the country was accepted into NATO.
“On this basis, we will build a new legally binding architecture of bilateral security treaties with the most powerful countries,” he said.
The Ukrainian president had proclaimed this Wednesday a “significant security victory” for the country in the relationship with NATO, after having exploded at the Vilnius summit with criticism of the ambiguity of the allies.
The countries that make up the G7 (Germany, France, the United States, Italy, the United Kingdom, Canada and Japan) announced a declaration that guarantees security until the eventual accession of the country.
Amid statements of renewed unity, the Ukrainian president announced, along with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, that he would return “home with a major security victory” and a “tactical signal” for the Kremlin.
