Serial killer caught after 13 years

Architect Rex Heuermann was arrested Friday as part of the investigation into the serial murders on Gilgo Beach, Long Island, in the United States. The man was arrested at his home in Massapequa Park.

According to The New York Posta 59-year-old man was arrested and may be the author of the so-called crimes at Gilgo Beach, where the bodies of at least ten people were found ten years ago.

The suspect is Rex Heuermann, owner and founder of the architecture studio RH Consultants and Associates, whose clients include American Airlines.

A year ago, authorities released the audio of a phone call to Shannan Gilbert’s emergency line, in May 2010, just before her disappearance. While searching for Shannan Gilbert, authorities found the remains of four more women in burlap sacks.

The case took on a new dimension when the first four victims were identified. The following spring, police found the remains of six more people, including a child.

Shannan Gilbert’s body was found in December 2011, but there was no consensus on the cause of death of the woman who worked as a prostitute. Some argue that the young woman accidentally drowned while fleeing a client’s home, not that she was the victim of the Long Island killer.
